BJGP February 2011

Only one point of use, raised on the Letters page: a reminder of why it’s not a great idea to investigate chronic daily headache with a CT scan.  For every treatable abnormality picked up, you’d scan over 300 sufferers, 27 of which would turn out to have incidental abnormalities with the anxiety that that would cause.  More worryingly, for every 15 treatable tumours found, one new cancer will be caused by the radiation from the CT scan.
