Benzodiazepine withdrawal

Symptoms can begin within 24 hours for short-acting benzos, or several days for longer-acting. They reach their maximum intensity between 3 and 14 days, but can continue for up to six weeks, and some people report symptoms for as long as one or two years, depending on how long their benzodiazepines were prescribed for. Warn patients of discontinuation syndrome at the time of prescription. (Prescriber 2012;23(7), 5th April)
