Lab tests in chronic liver disease

ALT/ALP tend not to be very good markers; they reflect acute hepatocellular damage rather than cirrhosis. Normally what you see is:

  • Low albumin
  • Prolonged clotting times
  • Low platelets (platelet sequestration in portal hypertension)
